In their debut season, Ellenbrook United Women’s Central Division 4 team delivered a commendable performance, finishing in the middle of the table. This result speaks volumes, considering it was the first time many of the players had come together. The squad featured a mix of seasoned veterans and rookies, creating a dynamic that blended experience with fresh energy.
Guiding this talented group was none other than Football Australia’s Coach of the Year, Christine Coppin. Her expertise and leadership proved invaluable as she brought the team together, fostering both skill development and camaraderie. Captain Tash Blackman, vice-captain Elise Cunningham, and former captain Dee Robinson provided critical leadership throughout the season. Their mentorship and guidance were particularly important for the less experienced players, offering support on and off the field.
Elise Cunningham shone brightly as the team’s goal-scoring machine, netting an astounding 34 goals—more than any other player in the division. Her incredible performance was a key highlight of the season, showcasing her attacking prowess and earning her well-deserved recognition.
Though the team’s results were mixed throughout the season, the journey brought more than just points on the board. A close-knit bond formed among the players, with friendships blossoming alongside their footballing development. The shared experiences of triumphs and challenges, both on the field and during training, built a remarkable team culture that transcends wins and losses.
Reflecting on their first season together, Ellenbrook United’s women are incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved. From their coaching staff to the players, they are excited for what the future holds for each and every player, and have created some wonderful memories of their season together.
Ellenbrook United Central Div 4 Season Wrap – Chris Coppin
The 2024 season was brimming with hope and optimism, showcasing a blend of seasoned players and emerging talent. It began with 2 teams which ultimately evolved into a strong, unified Division 4 team.
We were a team that played with heart and a genuine desire to win, putting in the hard work needed to develop as a cohesive team – and the results reflected that. Watching the team playsuch great football brought the spectators and I immense joy and pride. As the season progressed not only did, they bond as a team, but they also became good friends. While we experienced both wins and losses, the most rewarding aspect for me as a coach was witnessing the growth in team development and morale with each game they played.
During the regular season, we also participated in theWomen’s Cup, which featured 64 women’s teams from across the metro area. The competition was fierce, filled with talented squads. Ellenbrook made it all the way to the Quarterfinals, narrowly losing to a team that advanced to the final. This result was the best for any Ellenbrook team in the history of the club. I couldn’t be prouder of the girls and how far they went in this tournament; their success was a testament to their ability to play as a united team.
We finished the season in 5th place, a commendable achievement for a group of players who had never played together before. Our standout striker, Elise Cunningham, won the 2024 Golden Boot as the highest goal scorer, netting an impressive 34 goals.
As the season comes to close and we prepare for a well deserved break I find myself filled with happiness, contentment and pride for this team. Coaching them has been an absolute pleasure, and it’s an experience I will treasure forever.

Dedicating my golden boot to my brother Anthony Cunningham, who unfortunately passed away this year. Thank you to everyone who made this possible, it’s a year I’ll never forget.
It was a wonderful year full of new friendships, experiences and laughter. We learnt a lot and are super grateful we got the opportunity to have Chris as our coach, we will forever treasure this season, wishing her the best of luck for her future along with her partner Janelle Coppin who has been there supporting and helping us in every way she can, a great duo.
Christine Coppin will be heading over to Melbourne to coach with her good eye and knowledge for football, we have strong beliefs she will go a long way. Congratulations Chris, well deserved. You will be missed.
