A local City of Swan councillor has taken it upon himself to campaign for increased police coverage for Ellenbrook, Aveley and surrounding areas.
Councillor Aaron Bowman has started a petition to raise awareness of the urgent need to increase the numbers at the Ellenbrook Police Station.
“Ellenbrook police station is a 24-hour police station, it requires 2 police officers to be based at the station during the night, this leaves only 2 police officers in the one vehicle left to service this extremely large area with an exploding population,” he said.
Currently, the Ellenbrook Police Station is responsible for an area in excess of 550,000 m2, servicing a population across Dayton in the South, Brigadoon in the East, Lexia in the West and Bullsbrook in the North, and extending as far as the Avon Valley National Park, numbering more than 50,000.
An internal policing briefing note has shown that on most nights, no one visited the Ellenbrook Police station after midnight, essentially leaving two stationed officers out of circulation.
Councillor Bowman said: “Residents want more police out and about in the community. Surely at a time when there are significant police shortages, a review of Ellenbrook Police Station being manned 24/7 is warranted.”
