Dayton District Open Space opening

by Ian Johnson

On Saturday 21 September I attended the opening of the Dayton District Open Space (DDOS).
This $30 million facility includes two senior size AFL ovals, two cricket ovals (with synthetic wickets), two synthetic hockey fields, 12 netball/tennis courts, a neighbourhood park with two rectangular natural grass playing fields, six cricket practice wickets, two sport pavilions, play spaces – including 3 on 3 basketball –  and a family hub.

DDOS is home to the Caversham Dayton Cricket Club, Caversham Suns Junior Football Club, and the Eastern Blades and Ellenbrook Falcons Hockey Clubs.
DDOS caters for a variety of activities including competition sport, casual/unstructured sport and provides space for unstructured recreation and leisure opportunities.
The Community Opening included a rock climbing wall event (I got about halfway up), face painting (you can see me with the two face painting fairies), bouncy castle, ice-cream vans, food trucks and a speech by the Mayor.
