A man has been charged after allegedly breaking into an Ellenbrook home before assaulting a woman and threatening a child.

About 10pm on Saturday, police allege a 41-year-old man entered a home on Guraga Terrace, Ellenbrook via an open garage door.

It will be further alleged that while inside the home the man assaulted a 64-year-old woman and threatened a child.

The woman sustained minor injuries including cuts and bruising.

The man was stopped by another male inside the home before being taken into custody by police.

The Butler man has been charged with aggravated burglary and commit on a place, aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm, and common assault in circumstances of aggravation or racial aggravation.

He will appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on February 19.
