Sugar Gum Day

by Cr Ian Johnson

The City has responded to the need to protect the Sugar Gum eucalyptus trees in Sugar Gums Park in Guildford from damage caused by parking on the tree roots, by planting rosemary on the verge around the trees. Hopefully this will have the effect of discouraging car parking on the verge.
This year is the 25th anniversary of the successful community campaign to save Guildford’s Sugar Gums from removal and the City’s agreement to preserve and protect the trees. A day of free family fun is planned in Stirling Square to celebrate. Sugar Gum Day, supported by the City of Swan, will include art workshops, games, music, a historical display, the lighting of the trees at 6pm, and more.
