WA-First Mental Health Kids Hub Launched in Midland

Parkerville Children and Youth Care has officially launched The Kids Hub, a dedicated mental health and wellbeing service for children aged 0-12 experiencing mild to moderate mental health challenges in the City of Swan. This free, innovative service aims to provide early intervention and support to children and families in a safe, inclusive, and child-focused environment.

The launch event, held in Midland, was attended by key dignitaries, including the Honourable Amber-Jade Sanderson, WA Minister for Health and Mental Health; Ms Tania Lawrence, Minister for Hasluck; the Honourable Michelle Roberts, MLA Member for Midland; Acting Mental Health Commissioner Monica Taylor; Parkerville Chair Colin Pettit; and Parkerville CEO Kim Brooklyn. Together they cut the ribbon and officially marked this significant milestone for children’s mental health support in WA.

Guests toured the state-of-the-art facilities, gaining insight into the services offered at the Kids Hub. The service is delivered in partnership with Koya Aboriginal Corporation, Lifespan Psychology Centre, the Mental Illness Fellowship of Western Australia (MIFWA), and Pregnancy to Parenthood whose representatives were present to highlight the power of collaboration in supporting children’s mental health and wellbeing.

“Early intervention at the Kids Hub means addressing mental health concerns at the first signs, ensuring children and families receive the right support before issues escalate. Our goal is to equip families with tools to promote long-term wellbeing at home, school, and within their communities,” said Parkerville’s CEO, Kim Brooklyn.

Funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Health and Aged Care and the WA Government’s Mental Health Commission, The Kids Hub offers a range of services, including personalised assessments, therapy, and support. Families in the City of Swan can access these services without a Medicare card, referral, diagnosis, or appointment, ensuring that every child receives the support they need regardless of their circumstances.

The Kids Hub provides a holistic approach to children’s mental health, offering on-site psychology, occupational therapy, counselling, workshops, and referrals to additional community services.

Looking ahead to 2025, The Kids Hub will expand to include a sensory playground and yarning circle, creating dedicated spaces for children to play, express themselves, and connect.

“These new additions will foster a sense of belonging and provide safe spaces where children and families can come together to navigate life’s challenges,” said Kim Brooklyn. “We’re particularly proud of the yarning circle, which will offer a culturally safe space for Aboriginal children and families to share, connect, and heal.”

With walk-ins always welcome, The Kids Hub is set to transform the landscape of children’s mental health care in WA, ensuring every child has access to the support they need to thrive.

Families can reach out for support by calling 0405 349 227, emailing kidshub@parkerville.org.au, or visiting kidshubwa.org.au.
